Avoid Holiday Hazards in the Workplace

December 11, 2018

Workplace safety shouldn‚t take a holiday when the holiday season is here. In fact, statistics show that falls, fires and dangerous tripping hazards surge during the holiday season resulting in injury, property loss and even death. So, in order to enjoy the season, proper safety precautions must be taken when decking the halls and celebrating in the workplace. Use these safety tips:

  • Opt for artificial greenery and ensure that all decorations are made of noncombustible, flame retardant material (the label will indicate this).
  • Keep tripping hazards in mind when decking the halls and be sure that electrical cords, trees, gifts and/or other decorations are not in an area where people are likely to trip over or run into them.
  • Use a sturdy step stool or ladder to safely decorate areas in high places. Be sure to read and follow instructions for proper usage of ladders prior to using.
  • Be sure decorations do not block access to fire safety equipment. Place items in areas that do not block exits or cover exit signage.

Use these guidelines to ensure a happier, and not more hazardous, workplace during the holiday season.
